History of Parepare
Early in development,
the current plateau, called the City of Pare-Pare, the former is a shrub bushes
interspersed by holes slightly sloping ground where the sagebrush grows in the
wild and irregular, ranging from the north (Cappa Edge ) to the south of the
city departments. Then, through a process of historical development in such a
way that plain called the City of Pare-Pare.
Lontara kingdom Suppa
said the XIV century King Suppa a child to leave the palace and go south set up
a separate area on the shore because of his hobby of fishing. The area that
became known as the kingdom Soreang, then another kingdom stood around the XV
century the monarchy Bacukiki.
In a goodwill visit XI
King of Gowa, Manrigau Dg. Bonto Karaeng Tonapaalangga (1547-1566) of a walk
from the kingdom to the kingdom Soreang Bacukiki. As a king is known as a
strategist and a pioneer of development, the Kingdom of Gowa attracted by the
beautiful scenery on this stretch and spontaneous called "Bajiki Pare Ni"

Seeing a strategic

city in the central part of South Sulawesi. This is where the Dutch
headquarters to spread its wings and crawl all over eastern and northern plains
of South Sulawesi. It is headquartered in Pare-Pare for Ajatappareng region.
In the days of the
Dutch East Indies, in the City of Pare-Pare, a resident a Resident Assistant
and a Controlur or Gezag Hebber as Chairman of the Government (Dutch Indies),
with the status of the government's so-called "Afdeling Parepare"
which includes, Onder Afdeling Barru, Onder Afdeling Sidenreng Rappang, Onder
Afdeling Enrekang, Onder Onder Afdeling Afdeling Pinrang and Parepare.
In each region /
domicile Afdeling Onder Controlur or Gezag Hebber. In addition to the Dutch
East Indies government officials, the government structure of the Dutch East

Resident Assistant or Ken Karikan.
At the time Parepare
status remained a territory Afdeling still includes 5 area as mentioned
earlier. And with the release of Act No. 29 of 1959 concerning the formation
and division II level regions in South Sulawesi province, then to four Onder
Afdeling into district level, ie each District Level II Barru, Sidenreng
Rappang, Enrekang and Pinrang, was Parepare own status Municipal Level II
Parepare. Then in 1963 the term was changed to Township Municipal Law and after
discharge. 2 Year 1999 on Regional Government, the municipality changed its
status to "CITY" until now.
Based on
tanggalpelantikan and swearing First Mayor H. Mannaungi Andi on February 17,
1960, then by Decree No. legislatures. 3 of 1970 set the birthday of the
Municipality of Parepare on February 17, 1960.
